Volunteer Application
Overview of Volunteer Position
LEARN LA hosts a variety of programs, events, and activities throughout the year to support our programming efforts and community outreach. Volunteers receive monthly updates about upcoming volunteer opportunities and are expected to respond if they are interested in participating. Volunteers report directly to the event host unless otherwise notified. Additionally, volunteers can express interest in assisting with specific tasks at any time.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Volunteers interested in serving with LEARN must meet the following expectations: (1) Volunteers must be willing to assist with a variety of LEARN-hosted events and activities, including community events where responsibilities may include event setup and tear-down, greeting attendees, running activity stations, and completing other assigned tasks. (2) Volunteers supporting before and after school programming must be willing to help monitor students in classroom settings, support Youth Leaders with enrichment lessons, assist with snack distribution, and ensure student safety. (3) Volunteers participating in LEARN’s KidsPlay Program must be willing to support an organized athletic league for boys and girls in grades 3-8 that promotes skill-building, confidence, and healthy lifestyle habits. (4) Volunteers may also assist with additional responsibilities based on their interests, skills, and availability.
Qualifications
Volunteers must meet the following qualifications and requirements: (1) Volunteers should demonstrate an interest in working with, mentoring, and/or tutoring at-risk youth. (2) Volunteers must have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, peers, school staff, and others. (3) Volunteers must be able to work collaboratively as part of a team and serve as a positive role model for students. (4) Volunteers may be required to lift and carry small loads (up to 25 lbs.) and stand for extended periods of time, as well as observe the activities of children and others. (5) Adult volunteers (18+) must complete Live Scan fingerprinting through the Department of Justice and FBI and provide health clearance, including a TB test.
