"I like coming to GEAR UP/ASPIRE because of the
clubs and because of the tutors. Since I joined GEAR
UP/ASPIRE after school program, my grades have
come up. I think this after school program helps our
school a lot,”
says
Cristina Torres, 8th grader at NPMS.
LEARN is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a
second 21st Century Learning Center grant!  The grant will allow
LEARN to expand its PREP program to five new sites:
El Rancho
High School
and Ruben Salazar High School (of El Rancho
Unified School District),
Rosemead High School and Fernando
Ledesma High School
(of El Monte Union High School District),
and
Pioneer High School (of Whittier Union High School District)!
At North Park, students have the choice to engage in
different themed clubs.  Some of those clubs include
and are not limited to:
Different Techniques of
Painting, Music and Drumming, Guitar Club,
Knitting Club, Vintage Decoupage, and Drill Team
.
Our after school program has a total of 124 students
and we work really hard to get all of them engaged in
recreation, enrichment and tutoring activities.
For more information on North Park Middle School, please visit the
ASPIRE page or email Leslie Dubberly at leslie@learnla.org.

Q: What do you like about the
KidsPlay program and your coach?

A: “It’s fun and I enjoy playing in it.
My coaches are very encouraging and
they are willing to learn with us.”
- Jacob Trujillo (6th Grade)

A:  “It’s pretty cool because no
matter if you’re short or tall when we
make a shot, you get a really good
feeling inside. The coaches teach us a
lot of stuff, like how to be aggressive
and to use our bodies to the best of
our advantage. They also teach us
about sportsmanship and they
encourage us all the time.”
-  Veronica Torres (6th Grade)
