L.E.A.R.N. works to encourage a culture of learning by securing and providing resources to students and families in areas of need within the greater communities of El Monte, Pico Rivera, and Whittier.  With the budget constraints the school districts are facing LEARN will be presenting the El Monte Union High School District with a check in the amount of $61,771.61 on January 6, 2010 at 6pm at the El Monte Union High School District Office. This gift comes in addition to the PREP and GEAR UP programs LEARN provides to all the high schools within this district.

PREP is a program designated to support after-school programming at the high school level, the program collaborates with current organizations as well as craft new clubs based on student interest. Academic and enrichment activities are the main focus of this program, as it is used to increase our participant’s interest in seeking a higher education. The GEAR UP program is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. GEAR UP serves an entire cohort of students; the program began with them in sixth grade and will now follow the cohort through high school graduation.

L.E.A.R.N.’s programming provides over $1 million in resources to the El Monte Union High School District allowing the students to receive homework help, academic and extra-curricular enrichment, and recreation. L.E.A.R.N. is committed to working to secure resources to close the achievement gap for our area’s greatest resource, our students.
